Summer Vacation Series: Day 10- Neuschwanstein Castle

This was our final full day in Germany. We said goodbye to our amazing hotel in Garmisch. I will never forget that view of the Alps.

The Neuschwanstein Castle was on the way home so we stopped to see it. It was magnificent! My favorite castle ever! That might have something to do with the fact that it was one of the castles that Disney was inspired by when creating Cinderella's Castle (the central castle at all Disney parks). We stopped on the side of the road to get a good picture.

Hailey was feeling photogenic. So I just did my duty and snapped away.

We got to the town beneath the castle. The castle was on top of the hill. We had to either walk or ride in a horse-drawn carriage.
It wasn't a very tough choice. Travis' dad was the hero of the day. He wanted exercise so he walked Hailey's empty stroller to the top.
Hailey loved her view of the horses. Up close and personal. There were "presents" left by horses along the path that the driver insisted were "free souvenirs". We declined.
Once we made it as far as the carriages went, the driver pointed out the castle.
And then Hailey pointed out the castle. It cracked me up.
We had to walk a little ways to get up to the castle.

The view from the top of the hill was pretty spectacular!

We walked along the trails around the castle first.

The Neuschwanstein Castle was the son's castle. His parents castle was down the hill a ways.

Travis is so silly.
We walked over to a bridge that had an amazing view of the castle.
Hailey wasn't feeling it.
She's hard to impress.

Finally we made it to the front entrance of the castle.
Like all the castles before, the details were incredible.

Can you spot the bridge in this picture? That's where we were standing earlier.
This is how Hailey was feeling. We were wanting to take a tour of the castle inside, but we thought it would be a bad idea to take Hailey in. So again, Travis' dad was the hero and volunteered to stay outside with her. (He's been on the tour a few times.) They played with a dog and shared an ice cream while they waited. Thank you PopPop!
We weren't allowed to take pictures of the inside. Every single room was amazing. Breathtaking and spectacular. Trust me. haha. Too bad I have no proof. Once last picture of the view.
Then we headed back to Stuttgart. Once we got there, it was dinner time. We went to pick up some yufka doners (Turkish burritos) for dinner. Hailey and I waited in the car.
We sang songs while we waited.

I tried to give some love but Hailey wasn't having it.

Just look at those eyes. They kill me.
Okay, back to the yufka doners. They were freakin fantastic. It's a good thing they don't have those in America. I would be 500 pounds because I would eat them for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. My mouth is watering just thinking about them. Dang I wish I had one to put in my belly right now.

Anyways, that was that. Our final day in Germany. The next day we woke up and went to the airport. It was a daytime flight, so we weren't as pressured to keep Hailey quiet. We also got a seat behind a wall so we had more leg room. We were able to set Hailey down to let her play for bits of the flight. It was a life saver!

Phew. Now I'm all caught up. Life has been pretty regular since that trip. It was once in a lifetime and we'll never forget it. We are so grateful to Travis' parents for making it all possible.
