Summer Vacation Series: Day 5- Salzburg, Austria

Let me start this post by saying, this day is a day I will never forget. I had a blast and it is one of my favorite things we did on the trip.

We went to Salzburg, AUSTRIA where most of the Sound of Music took place. Holy moly! It was so cool! We went on a bike tour around the city, looking at all the places used in the movie.
Notice my straight, beautiful hair. (Yes, this is relevant.)

Hailey was pretty excited to get started.
This was our group- all of us and another family.
Our tour guide's name was Arsen. Later on, he would play and sing some Sound of Music songs with us.

And we're off!
First we saw the arch Rolf stoof under in the movie.

Then we saw the wall Fraulein Maria stood at.

We stopped at the fountain to reenact that scene.

I love how happy this made Greg. haha

This was the building the Nazis gathered in front of in the movie. (I couldn't find a picture from the movie.)
Then we stopped for a snack and walked around the shops for a bit. Hailey got a little friend.
Notice my hair getting wavier... it was humid outside. (It gets worse.)

We headed up a long hill and all of our legs burned.
This was the abbey that Fraulein Maria stayed at as a nun.

They didn't use the inside for the movie, but it was still cool.
Outside the abbey, we gathered around and sang some Sound of Music songs with Arsen. People walking by thought we were a little crazy, but it was actually super fun.

Then we headed down the hill and to the Vontrapp's mansion. (Well one of them.)

They used two mansions in the movie. This one was used for the backyard lake scenes.

So we carried on to the second mansion they used in the movie.

They used this mansion for the scenes in the front. Remember when they pushed their car out front to escape?
I attempted to reenact that scene...
Did you notice Hailey sleeping in the back?
Then we reenacted the scene with Fraulein Maria skipping.
 Travis wins.
Next stop... my favorite. The gazebo!

They had to lock it closed because people kept jumping from bench to bench and breaking ankles. haha. Yeah, that probably would have been me..
And finally, the cemetery- the place they hid from the Nazis.
Long story short, the tour was AMAZING!!! It ended up raining for the last 45 minutes of our 3 hour tour. But it made it such a fun memory. Definitely something we'll never forget. And I can't believe Hailey slept through the rain! (Check out the end result of my hair- from perfectly straight to frizzy and curly. Oh rain.)

Salzburg was beautiful.

Such an unforgettable day!
